About James and Lauren
James McMahon and Lauren Rosenfeld first met while mingling at the birthday party of a mutual friend in January 1993. At the time, they were both were grad-school students in Boston (James was studying Atmospheric Chemistry at MIT in Cambridge, Mass., while Lauren was studying Jewish Mysticism in nearby Brookline). Despite their broadly diverse backgrounds, within moments of meeting, each of them instinctively knew that they had found a kindred spirit in the other. So the scientist and the mystic tucked themselves away in a quiet spot on the floor, away from the music and reveling. They sat together and talked privately for the rest of the evening. Their discussion quickly and naturally transitioned from basic introductions to a deep conversation about the directions of their personal paths in life.
Those paths, it turns out, would soon merge and become one.
A week after the party Lauren and James went out on their first date. Four weeks after their first date, they became engaged. Four months after the engagement, they were married. And fourteen years and four children later, they moved to Asheville, North Carolina, where together they launched Wisdomology.com, an online community that is a meeting place for seekers and sages from diverse spiritual traditions, all hoping to bring more peace and understanding to the world.
And four years after their move to Asheville, they co-authored Your To Be List, a book that reflects their deep belief that every moment in life is meaningful, and that everything we do in life presents us with a grand opportunity to practice at being the person we deeply aspire to be.
